Summary
A significant relationship between inherited and supporting resources—such as cultural heritage attractions and accessibility—and destination competitiveness was identified, offering critical insights for post-COVID-19 ecotourism recovery. The study, conducted across five Sarawak national parks including Gunung Mulu National Park, used a survey of 177 domestic tourists to assess factors like natural resources, cultural heritage, and service quality. Path modeling revealed that effective resource management enhances competitiveness, particularly in open-space destinations with minimal contact—ideal for post-pandemic travel trends. Findings provide actionable strategies for policymakers and operators to sustainably revitalize ecotourism, aligning with global shifts toward safer, nature-focused tourism.
