Summary

Slovakia's karst and non-karst regions host a diverse range of cave types, yet existing genetic classification criteria for caves in the Western Carpathians lack integration. This study proposes fundamental principles to categorize caves based on their genesis, addressing gaps in current terminology such as 'exokras' vs. 'endokarst' and 'karst' vs. 'pseudokarst.' The research characterizes basic genetic cave types, offering a standardized framework for future karstological and speleological studies.
