Summary

Blue antimora (Antimora rostrata) populations off Macquarie Island exhibit growth rates comparable to those in other Southern Ocean regions, including the Ross, Lazarev, and Weddell Seas, as well as near Kerguelen and Crozet Islands. However, individuals from New Zealand waters demonstrate significantly slower growth, akin to those found in the Flemish Cap area. This study analyzed age and growth patterns using samples collected from bycatch in the Patagonian toothfish longline fishery (Macquarie Island) and bottom trawl catches (New Zealand). Age estimates ranged from 11 to 44 years, with total lengths varying between 22.5–71.1 cm. The most abundant age classes differed between regions, suggesting potential stock structure variations. Further research is needed to clarify population distinctions across the species' broad range.
