Summary
Pasargadae, the ancient capital of Cyrus the Great and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004, presents unique challenges for heritage management due to its contested cultural landscape. This study proposes a conceptual framework for establishing a site museum that navigates ideological tensions such as nationalism and state Islamism while acknowledging local nomadic and sedentary lifestyles. By focusing on the notion of 'place,' the research offers a methodological approach to interpret Pasargadae's significance, balancing its role as a symbol of Persian identity, pilgrimage site, and political dissent. This framework could serve as a model for similar heritage sites facing complex politico-cultural dynamics.
