Summary
A novel conservation approach for the mural paintings at Amenemhat's tomb (TT 340) in Deir el-Medina, Western Thebes, Egypt, has been successfully demonstrated. The study identified Klucel G 1% as highly effective for consolidating weak painting layers and Bio Estel for fragile mud plaster layers. Additionally, a specific mortar blend was found suitable for filling gaps and cracks, significantly advancing the preservation of ancient Egyptian tempera techniques. The research employed advanced analytical methods including SEM-EDS, XRD, FTIR, and colorimetric measurements to assess the current state and determine optimal conservation materials. This work provides critical insights into the long-term preservation of UNESCO World Heritage Sites with similar deterioration factors.
