Summary
A high rate of ant endemism (31.57%) was recorded along the Atlantic coast of El Jadida, Morocco, with 19 species identified across two sites: Haouzia's natural scrubland and Chiadma's eucalyptus reforested area. The study found significantly higher ant diversity in Haouzia, with 13 species (Shannon index: 5.9) compared to 11 in Chiadma (index: 3.5), suggesting potential negative impacts of eucalyptus reforestation on local biodiversity. Most species were new records for the region, except Aphaenogaster theryi and Cataglyphis vaucheri. Sampling was conducted using pitfall traps during four campaigns in April–May 2022, highlighting urgent conservation needs for this understudied UNESCO World Heritage Site.
