Summary
A study reveals that tourists' values significantly influence the sustainable development of traditional villages, such as Hongcun and Xidi in Anhui, China. The research identifies 39 Mean-End Chain (MEC) value chains, highlighting 11 key attributes of Huizhou traditional villages that resonate with different generational cohorts (60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s). It also uncovers 16 tourism outcomes and 9 types of tourists' values, demonstrating an inherent interaction between these values and village attributes. This interaction subdivides tourism products and marketing channels, offering a model for sustainable development that is crucial for preserving traditional villages in the Huizhou region.
