Summary
A recent survey of the ancient Khmer city Chok Gargyar, conducted between 2007 and 2010, revealed that its temple layout holds significant symbolic meaning. Initially appearing irregular, temples around Prasat Thom share a common plan, with Prasat Thom serving as the central complex. The royal road leads directly to this center, while a straight pilgrimage route connects it to the pyramid temple 'Prang,' suggesting a deliberate spatial organization that reflects the ruler's unifying power. This visible and symbolic connection between worshipers and the city center underscores the architectural and ideological significance of Chok Gargyar.
