Summary
A new analysis of lead isotope ratios in bronze artifacts and lead ingots from Yin Xu reveals significant cultural exchanges between the Central Plains and the Jianghuai region during the late Shang Dynasty. The study found that the decrease in bronzes with highly radiogenic lead coincides with an increase in lead content in Yin Xu bronzes, suggesting a shift in lead sourcing practices. Researchers analyzed three lead ingots from Yin Xu and two lead vessels from Zhengxiaozhuang tomb, along with bronze artifacts, to trace these changes. The findings provide insights into the metallurgical advancements and trade dynamics of the period.
