Summary

A new lichen species, Thelotrema hnatiukii, has been discovered on Aldabra Atoll, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Indian Ocean. This species belongs to the Thelotremataceae family and is closely related to T. euphorbiae, known only from Aldabra so far. The study, conducted by H.J.M. Sipman, identifies three species of Thelotremataceae on the atoll: Leucodecton compunctum, Thelotrema euphorbiae, and T. hnatiukii. The research highlights the unique biodiversity of Aldabra, contributing to our understanding of lichen diversity in this remote marine environment.
