Summary

A strong perceived link between water salinity and hypertension exists among coastal communities in the Sine-Saloum Delta, Senegal. This qualitative study reveals that residents consistently attribute their high blood pressure to consuming saline water, shaping their health-seeking behaviors and imposing economic burdens as they seek alternative freshwater sources like rainwater or bottled water. The findings underscore the need for public health strategies to address both hypertension prevention and reliable freshwater access in this region.
