Summary

Researchers have identified two new species of fringe-limbed frogs, Ecnomiohyla bailarina and E. veraguensis, from Panama's Darien National Park and Santa Fe National Park, respectively. These discoveries were made through field explorations that employed non-standard search methods to detect canopy-dwelling anurans, often overlooked in traditional herpetological surveys. The new species exhibit significant genetic divergence (16S mtDNA gene) and distinct morphological traits compared to known Ecnomiohyla species. The study provides comprehensive descriptions of these frogs, including comparisons with other members of the genus in lower Central America, along with an identification key for the entire genus.
