Summary
This study reveals how the poetry of Carlos Pezoa Véliz captures and evolves with the popular and marginal landscapes of Valparaíso, particularly its seaport communities. Analyzing his works 'Vida de puerto' (1903) and 'Alma chilena' (1908), the research demonstrates a shift from naturalistic imagery to a narrative voice rooted in collective oral traditions, marking a distinct trajectory in Chilean modern poetry. The study also contextualizes Pezoa Véliz's poetic development within Valparaíso's socio-historical milieu, highlighting his role as a dissident voice that challenges conventional representations of the city.
