Summary

A collaborative effort between TU Wien, Universitas Gadjah Mada, and local authorities has developed a monitoring workflow for the temples of Java using 3D laser scanning and photogrammetry. This approach aims to provide reliable and cost-effective continuous observation of these UNESCO World Heritage Sites, which are vulnerable to earthquakes. The study tested this workflow by measuring ten temples, demonstrating its potential for structural stability assessment under local conditions. The findings highlight the importance of advanced surveying techniques in preserving Indonesia's rich cultural heritage, even as Buddhism and Hinduism have faded from everyday life.
