Summary

A groundbreaking discovery by Reisner’s Nubian excavations solved the long-standing mystery of locating entrances to Nubian pyramids, which were traditionally positioned with sloping stairways outside the structures. This method was successfully applied across multiple pyramid sites, including Nuri and el-Kurru, leading to the uncovering of significant tomb treasures belonging to kings such as Aspelta (Nuri) and Taharqa (el-Kurru). Additionally, Gebel Barkal yielded a cache of colossal statues of Nubian kings. The research also documented historical challenges faced during excavations, including a fatal accident at Nuri Pyramid 5 and the impact of World War I on ongoing work.
