A groundbreaking study on Sintra’s UNESCO-listed cultural landscape reveals its eclectic composition through advanced semiotics and photogrammetry, offering a dynamic, multi-dimensional database for analysis. Researchers used Structure from Motion (SfM) technology with drones to capture dense point clouds and 3D meshes of key sites—Parque da Pena, Monserrate, and Regaleira—enabling precise metric, material, and colorimetric measurements. This innovative approach not only deepens our understanding of Sintra’s visual and theoretical significance but also provides a scalable tool for monitoring and preserving its heritage. The resulting database serves as both an academic resource and a practical instrument for conservation, embodying the complexity of one of Portugal’s most iconic symbols.
