Summary

A significant shift in Togo's rural settlements is eroding traditional vernacular architecture, threatening cultural heritage. Despite efforts to improve habitability using imported materials like cement and sheet metal, these changes fail to enhance living conditions while fostering social detachment from cultural traditions. The study identifies and characterizes traditional residential typologies, revealing a loss of constructive, formal, and technical diversity. It evaluates the balance between sustainable development and the preservation of cultural values, highlighting the risks posed by structural changes in rural habitats.
