Features of legal protection of some World Natural Heritage sites in Bulgaria

Effective cooperation between national and international authorities has proven critical in preserving Bulgaria's UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as Pirin National Park and Srebyrna Nature Reserve. The study highlights that the application of management plans for these areas has successfully prevented degradation, demonstrating a model that could be applied to other sites like Lake Baikal. Through comparative legal analysis, researchers identified key measures—including boundary determination and buffer zone expansion—that strengthen protection frameworks. Recommendations emphasize the need for mandatory management plans at the legislative level to enhance conservation efforts globally.
