Summary
A study evaluating the accuracy of Bundle Adjustment (BA) and photogrammetric reconstruction from unordered aerial datasets collected using kite platforms reveals that while these methods are affordable and user-friendly, they introduce factors that can hinder 3D model reliability. By reprocessing datasets from the UNESCO World Heritage Site Khirokitia Vouni in Cyprus using commercial software and DBAT (Damped Bundle Adjustment Toolbox), researchers assessed the geometric accuracy and spatial resolution of the reconstructions. The findings highlight the challenges posed by unordered data collection, which contrasts with the more controlled and accurate approaches enabled by modern Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). This study underscores the need for improved network design in kite-based aerial photography to enhance photogrammetric outcomes.
