Summary

A foundational approach to stained-glass connoisseurship, rooted in 19th-century art historical methods, was applied to medieval glazings post-World War II restorations. This study established a method linking stylistic analysis with workshop attribution, drawing from the traditions of Giovanni Morelli and Bernard Berenson. By identifying visual features unique to individual workshops, it provided a framework for understanding the creation and study of medieval stained glass, exemplified in Louis Grodecki's seminal work on Bourges, Chartres, and Poitiers cathedrals.
