Summary
A novel, multidisciplinary approach to structural restoration of historic churches was successfully applied to the UNESCO-listed Katholikon of Daphni Monastery, demonstrating that minimal, targeted interventions can significantly enhance seismic resilience without compromising architectural integrity. The study employed a phased design strategy, combining initial surveys and numerical analysis with real-time seismic monitoring to refine calibrated models, avoiding overly conservative assumptions that could lead to unnecessary alterations. This method allowed for the implementation of two-stage restoration works, prioritizing knowledge-driven interventions over extensive repairs. The findings highlight the potential of adaptive, data-informed conservation strategies for vulnerable World Heritage Sites, balancing structural stability with preservation goals.
