Summary
A comprehensive inventory of landslides triggered by the devastating storm of October 1954 on the Amalfi Coast, southern Italy, reveals significant insights into the spatial distribution and morphometric characteristics of these slope failures. The study utilized stereoscopic aerial photographs and high-resolution LiDAR-derived topography to map over 300 landslide source areas, providing a detailed characterization of one of the most catastrophic historical events in Campania Region. By analyzing rainfall distribution alongside the density of landslide sources, researchers identified key patterns linking precipitation intensity to slope instability, offering critical data for understanding and mitigating future risks in this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
