Summary
Paleontologists have identified the upper Ladinian stage (Middle Triassic) for the first time on the island of Mallorca, Spain, through the study of silicified mollusc fossils from the Muschelkalk facies in the Serra de Tramuntana. This discovery provides critical biostratigraphic insights into the geological history of the Balearic Islands. The research analyzed ammonoids, gastropods, and bivalves to assess their biogeographical context during this period, contributing preliminary data that enhance our understanding of Mediterranean mollusc distribution in the Middle Triassic.
