Summary
Domestic tourism in Lumbini, Nepal—the birthplace of Lord Buddha—has surged as a vital alternative to international tourism, driven by religious significance and national pride. A study involving 174 domestic tourists and five key informants reveals that while Lumbini attracts visitors from across Nepal for its spiritual and cultural importance, challenges persist in infrastructure development and policy intervention. The research highlights the need for balanced growth to sustain this emerging tourism sector, which has gained momentum despite the site's global reputation as a hub for international visitors.
