Summary
A comprehensive 3D model of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra caves has been developed to address urgent preservation needs, revealing critical insights into the structural integrity and historical significance of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. The study employed terrestrial laser scanning over 450 meters of tunnels and entrance structures, combined with a spatial underground geodetic network, to create detailed plans, cross-sections, and a Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN) model. This method provides an unprecedented tool for monitoring the caves' condition, which are currently in a state of emergency, and offers prospective applications for conservation efforts. The findings highlight the importance of advanced geospatial techniques in preserving cultural heritage at risk.
