Summary
A unique karst system beneath the Kaibab Plateau and Grand Canyon National Park exhibits rapid, conduit-dominated flow with fracture connectivity between surface and deep aquifers, unlike typical karst behavior. Dye trace analysis revealed that base flow recession coefficients in the deep karst are an order of magnitude lower than global averages, indicating exceptional hydraulic efficiency. This study used LiDAR data, GIS mapping, and non-toxic fluorescent dyes to characterize sinkhole distribution and delineate flow paths, providing critical insights for aquifer management in complex karst environments.
