Summary

A key challenge to the growth of faith-based tourism products in sacred spaces, such as the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove, is overcrowding. Despite this, improved infrastructure and clear instructions can effectively manage visitor traffic, enhancing the economic benefits for these sites. The study employed ethnographic research to investigate challenges faced by three major religious sites (Redemption Camp, Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove, and NASFAT camp) in southwestern Nigeria, representing Christianity, Islam, and African traditional religion. Findings highlight that while faith-based tourism—including pilgrimages and ritual performances—drives significant visitor numbers, addressing overcrowding is crucial for sustainable growth.
