Summary
Tourism development in Komodo National Park (KNP), part of Indonesia's Labuan Bajo strategic tourism area, presents both socioeconomic benefits and drawbacks for local stakeholders. A qualitative study involving in-depth interviews with communities, government officials, NGOs, educators, indigenous groups, entrepreneurs, and travel agencies revealed that while tourism has altered local livelihoods positively—such as through economic growth—it also poses challenges, including environmental strain and conservation concerns. The research highlights the need for greater local involvement in management and planning to ensure sustainable outcomes. This study contributes to the broader literature on tourism development by emphasizing the importance of stakeholder collaboration in balancing economic gains with ecological preservation.
