Summary
Excavations at the Sarazm-2 site in the Zeravshan valley have uncovered the first evidence of Afanasievo culture burial mounds, revealing significant cultural interactions between local agricultural populations and pastoralists during the Late Eneolithic and Early Bronze Age. These findings suggest close contacts that influenced material culture, offering a new perspective on the genesis of the Afanasievo culture around 4000 BCE. The study, conducted in summer and autumn 2020, provides preliminary insights into the archaeological significance of Sarazm-2, contributing to broader understandings of proto-urban development in the region.
