Islamizing Berber Lifestyles

Islamization of Berber lifestyles in the Western Maghreb occurred gradually, with new archaeological evidence from sites like Rirha and Volubilis revealing shifts in settlement patterns, diet, pottery, and coinage use. Unlike the rapid Romanization of urban centers, Islamization was a slower process, driven by emulation among elites and a gradual change in general habits. While earlier evidence is scarce, excavations at these sites provide insights into the transition from pre-Islamic to fully Islamized communities by the 10th century, highlighting regional variations between Berber and Arabic communities.
