Summary
A significant proportion of seeds (58%) of the vulnerable tree Ramorinoa girolae, endemic to Argentina, are lost due to pre-dispersal predation by Anypsipyla univitella. This study quantified seed loss and assessed factors influencing predation, revealing that fruits with more predators, more seeds, and smaller sizes experienced higher predation rates. Seed abortion was a minor factor of loss (6%). The research sampled 17 adult trees across three stands in Ischigualasto Provincial Park, analyzing fruit size, number of seeds, and predator presence using Generalized Linear Mixed Models.
