Summary

Researchers have identified and described a new species of Ingolfiellid amphipod, Ingolfiella arganoi, from an anchialine pool on Abd al Kuri Island in the Socotra Archipelago. This discovery fills a significant gap in the geographical distribution of the family, which was previously unknown in the western shore of the Indian Ocean. The new species exhibits morphological similarities to Ingolfiella xarifae from the Maldives, suggesting close affinities. The study is based on the examination of two specimens, a male and a female, providing valuable insights into the biodiversity and evolutionary relationships within this group of shallow marine interstitial crustaceans.
