Summary
A novel approach to evaluating the economic viability of heritage conservation, the Economic Heritage Impact Assessment (EHIA), has been proposed. This method integrates cultural and economic assessments to quantify the monetary benefits of investing in the preservation of historic urban landscapes, particularly in coastal UNESCO sites like Torre Annunziata. The EHIA builds on the ICOMOS Guidance for Heritage Impact Assessments by incorporating cost-benefit analysis, addressing a gap in current heritage evaluation frameworks. Applied to the Grande Progetto Pompei's impact on Torre Annunziata's waterfront, this study demonstrates how economic considerations can enhance decision-making for large-scale urban renewal projects, offering a more comprehensive tool for balancing cultural and financial outcomes.
