Summary

Research reveals that the Green Open Space (GOS) of Ratu Boko Temple exhibits higher environmental quality compared to Prambanan Temple, with a more dominant presence of biophony—natural sounds like birds—in its soundscape. The study analyzed acoustic data and bird species diversity across both sites in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, using smartphone recordings and the Bird Community Index. Findings indicate that Ratu Boko's GOS, characterized by richer bird biodiversity and lower anthropogenic noise, is classified as medium-quality, while Prambanan's is rated low. Topographical features, vegetation arrangement, and proximity to highways significantly influence these differences, highlighting the impact of urbanization on temple ecosystems.
