Summary
A detailed isotopic analysis of the Upper Triassic flora from Ischigualasto / Talampaya Natural Parks, Argentina, reveals a mean carbon isotope ratio (δ13C) of -25.4‰, consistent with C3 plants and indicating minimal diagenetic alteration. This value is enriched by ~3‰ compared to Middle Triassic plants, suggesting a disturbance in the global carbon cycle during the Early Mesozoic. The study also estimates a paleo-atmospheric isotopic composition of -6.1‰, differing slightly from marine carbonate proxies, possibly due to atmospheric CO2/O2 ratios or hydric stress. The research provides critical data for chemostratigraphic correlation and offers insights into paleoatmospheric conditions during the Carnian period (~225 Ma).
