Summary
The Saloum Delta mangrove, a critical socio-economic and ecological asset, has shown remarkable stability despite gradual regression over 14 years (2008–2022), losing -7.47% of its area to tidal flats (tannes) and urban expansion. While anthropogenic activities—such as wood extraction, shrimp harvesting, and fishing—were identified as minor drivers, natural factors were deemed more influential in ecosystem degradation. The study, combining Landsat 7/8 satellite imagery analysis with supervised classification (QGIS) and socio-economic surveys, revealed three key actor groups and highlighted community-led mangrove restoration efforts. These findings underscore the need for further research on natural influences shaping the mangrove's trajectory.
