Summary

A significant positive correlation between species knowledge and connectedness with nature was identified among visitors to the UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site, the Wadden Sea. The study, which surveyed 126 visitors at the Wadden Sea Visitor Centre, revealed that while general species knowledge was relatively low, recognition of the European Herring Gull stood out as notably high. This research underscores the importance of environmental education and connectedness with nature in fostering sustainable development and managing future ecological challenges. The findings were derived from a questionnaire survey employing statistical methods such as t-tests and correlation analyses.
