Summary
Kenzo Tange's Hiroshima Peace Park Project (1950) envisioned a transformative urban concept centered on the Atomic Bomb Dome, integrating peace memorialization with cultural development. Tange's design aimed to connect Nakajima and Motomachi districts through this symbolic axis, embodying his 'factory of peace' philosophy. Despite planning a comprehensive complex, only Hiroshima Children's Library was realized in Motomachi due to external pressures and internal adjustments. The study reveals how Tange harmonized architectural vision with postwar reconstruction challenges, offering insights into the interplay between urban design, cultural identity, and historical preservation at UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
