Summary
A century after Leopoldo Torres Balbás was appointed as the conservator architect of the Alhambra, Granada, his groundbreaking conservation efforts have preserved the Nasrid complex with remarkable integrity and authenticity. His interdisciplinary approach, combined with theoretical knowledge, the 1917 Conservation Plan by Ricardo Velázquez Bosco, and extensive historical documentation from the Alhambra's archives, allowed him to develop an innovative and advanced method for architectural heritage intervention at the time. Torres Balbás' criteria evolved through practical challenges, leaving a lasting impact on the architecture of the Alhambra and Generalife before his work was abruptly halted by the Spanish Civil War.
