Summary

A comprehensive survey of herpetofauna in Sarpang District, Bhutan, reveals the first formal documentation of amphibian and reptile diversity in a region largely enclosed by three protected areas: Royal Manas National Park, Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park, and Phibsoo Wildlife Sanctuary. This study addresses a critical gap in Bhutan's herpetological records, which have been fragmented due to reliance on citizen science data or regional reports. The research employs systematic field surveys to catalog species diversity, providing a foundational dataset for conservation efforts in this ecologically significant area. Findings highlight the importance of protected areas in maintaining biodiversity and underscore the need for further systematic studies across Bhutan's underrepresented regions.
