Summary
Macroinvertebrates serve as effective indicators for assessing the ecological status of aquatic systems, including the Danube Delta's Saint Gheorghe Branch. This study reveals that these organisms integrate environmental pressures at spatial and temporal scales, providing valuable insights into habitat heterogeneity and water body conditions. By analyzing samples collected monthly from July to October 2012, researchers quantified and qualified macroinvertebrate community structure and composition, aligning with Water Framework Directive (WFD) methodologies. The findings highlight the long-term effects of environmental pressures on benthic communities, offering a robust tool for evaluating the ecological status of lotic aquatic systems.
