Summary

Two new species of the liverwort genus Chiastocaulon, C. fasciculatum and C. pachycephalum, have been identified in the Wet Tropics Bioregion of north-eastern Queensland, Australia. C. fasciculatum is distinguished by its ovate leaves with two to three prominent teeth and additional smaller ventral teeth, differing from its similar species C. dendroides. This discovery underscores the ongoing exploration needed for the bryophyte flora in this region. Additionally, C. pachycephalum, previously known only from Borneo, marks its first documented occurrence in Australia. These findings highlight the bioregion's rich but underexplored biodiversity.
