Summary
A comprehensive survey of Diptera diversity in the Brazilian Western Arc, spanning Amazon, Cerrado, and Pantanal biomes, identified 2,130 species across 514 genera, marking a significant 41% increase in known species for these regions. The SISBIOTA-Diptera project, involving over 90 collaborators, utilized extensive sampling methods to document fly diversity in understudied areas facing rapid land conversion. Key findings highlighted the dominance of Tachinidae and Cecidomyiidae families, while also revealing substantial taxonomic gaps. This study not only contributes critical data for conservation policies but also underscores the urgent need for further exploration of these biomes, with 101 new species and three new genera already described.
