Summary

A reappraisal of pottery and buckle data from the early Byzantine settlement at Olympia suggests that the site was not abandoned as previously thought in the early 7th century, but likely persisted into the late 7th century or beyond. This challenges the long-held belief that Slavic penetration led to the immediate abandonment of the area. The study compares documented pottery types with recently published material from other sites and introduces unpublished buckle data, indicating a possible coexistence of indigenous populations with Slavic newcomers during this transitional period.
