Summary

A new methodology for prioritizing the restoration of heritage sites, demonstrated through the 124 columns of the Patio de Los Leones at the Alhambra and Generalife in Granada, Spain. This approach combines multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA), specifically the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), with Historical Building Information Modeling (HBIM) to assess and rank columns based on their decay factors. The study, part of a broader EU-funded project (WARMEST), aims to address the challenges posed by climate change and high tourist traffic—over 2 million annually—which threaten these UNESCO World Heritage Sites. By integrating data-driven decision-making with HBIM models, the research offers a scalable framework for optimizing maintenance plans and comparing degradation trends over time.
