Summary

Aboriginal building traditions of the Girramay people in Queensland's Wet Tropics persisted into the 20th century, offering rare insight into pre-colonial settlement patterns and construction practices. This study refines understanding of these traditions by combining archival analysis with oral histories and the reconstruction of twelve traditional dwellings (2002–2004). It challenges generalized narratives from settler-era archives, demonstrating their limitations in capturing Indigenous architectural knowledge.
