Summary
This research highlights the emergence of a distinct educational model within the quilombo community of Campinho da Independência, Paraty, RJ, rooted in decolonial principles. It reveals how the community's struggle for recognition of its ancestral knowledge and cultural specificities has shaped an alternative school system that challenges dominant educational norms. The study employs a case study approach, combining participant observation and interviews, to demonstrate the community's agency in constructing an education system that values quilombola culture and epistemologies. This work contributes significantly to discussions on decolonial education by showcasing the potential for localized, culturally relevant pedagogies to emerge from marginalized communities before formal legal recognition.
