Summary
Integrating industrial design into urban revitalization efforts can significantly enhance the preservation and interpretation of cultural heritage, as demonstrated by a study focusing on São Luís's historic center. The research highlights how product designers' expertise—often overlooked in such projects—can improve signage and urban furniture systems through interdisciplinary collaboration with architecture and urban planning. Using methodologies including documentary research, systematic observation, and focused interviews, the study applied D'Agostini and Gomes' (2010) and D'Agostini's (2017) design frameworks to propose innovative solutions for heritage conservation. These findings underscore the potential of industrial design to bridge gaps in preserving tangible and intangible cultural assets while addressing practical challenges in urban revitalization.
