Summary
A high-resolution analysis of lake sediments and peat from the Central Sikhote-Alin Mountains reveals dynamic hydroclimatic shifts over the past 4,400 years. The study identifies frequent transitions between wet and dry conditions, driven primarily by variations in precipitation linked to monsoon intensity and cyclogenesis. Using diatom assemblages and sphagnum moss compositions, alongside radiocarbon dating, researchers reconstructed lake evolution with unprecedented temporal resolution (30–40 years). The findings highlight the sensitivity of these high-altitude ecosystems to short-term climatic fluctuations, offering new insights into late Holocene hydroclimate dynamics in the Russian Far East.
