Summary
A significant shift in medieval Georgian education is revealed, with Gelati Monastery's Gelati Academy emerging as a pivotal institution between the 11th and 13th centuries. The study demonstrates that while higher education was primarily conducted abroad, notably in Byzantium, this period saw the establishment of domestic academic centers like Gelati, Ivirion, and Ikalto monasteries. These institutions became hubs for both primary education and the training of academic teachers, including women, marking a critical evolution in Georgian educational thought and practice.
